Eli spent three days in Cali with me. The list of things we did was crazy from waves, the mountains, hanging in LA and a basketball game just for starters! I was so stoked to show my friend where I live since he has shown me all around Australia.

Air Ball

I worked in Omaha this past weekend. It was cold, long hours but still a lot of fun! Each weekend is something new and fresh. It is really cool to see how much dedication some of these dancers have. I ran the backstage one day checking in all the dancers and as I was cleaning the stage I got called out by the DJ and the crowd to dance so while I was sweeping I put in a little performance haha So amped Andrea Lowe asked me to be her dance partner in Highschool! 17 hour work days fly by. Going to Detroit tomorrow!!

This last weekend I was flown out to Oakland to work in San Mateo. It was sweet cause I flew out of Long Beach airport which is like 10 minutes from my house. My travel partner Jack and I always have a blast on these work trips. The crew of people I am with are the coolest and I fit time to still do my homework late at night. We got to go out to this pretty sweet mexican restaurant and my friend Sabrina I killed the dance floor it was sick haha

I got home late last night from the work trip and was greeted by an email from my friend Eli saying that he was on his way to Cali to cruise with me for a few days! I was pretty amped on the 10 hour notice but couldn't be any more stoked. I have stayed with him two different times in Australia and was excited on the Idea to show him around cali. I did homework all morning and afternoon just to get a bit ahead of the game so I wouldn't have to do any while he was here. He flew in from Hawaii and we go straight into it with checking out Manhattan Beach Pier, Jamba Juice, got him situated at the house, loaded the car for the beach, had a fun session, saw an epic sunset while bodyboarding, got our grub on at In-N-Out, ( we had a 3x3 and then a 4x4!!!! soooo much food haha) checked out a bikram class for tomorrow, then I finished my HW while he cruised with my parents. The next few days are going to be super packed and so fun!

The other day my friend Jeff Yusa gave me a call to come up and surf with him at his local spot. My friend Dustin and I were stoked and shot up there to get some waves. Since I am usually not home during the winter I usually don't get to hang out with Dustin that much. This winter has been so different. We have been doing marathon sessions when the waves are good at our local spot! He beat me one day by surfing for 9 hours! Only taking a little snack and water break. He charges and is definetley someone who pushes my riding each session.
I also got to meet Jeff's friend Jeremy Philips who is a water Photographer and bodyboarder. He was a really cool guy and is heading to Hawaii in March. You can check out his blog by clicking HERE!

On Thursday my brother Jason and I got to go to the the Northern Trust Open Golf tournament! It was my first golf tournament I have been to and it was amazing! You get to see the golfers in there element like 10ft from you. They nail the golf balls so far! I learned a lot from these athletes like how focus they have to be, and the different style equipment they use. They use what works best for them not what it looks like. I mean I saw at least 9 different putter styles. After the event my brother took me to In n Out and it was the best In n Out ever!

I started a job this weekend to help pay for my school since doubling up on classes at the University of Phoenix is super expensive. I graduate in November and can not wait for it to be over haha I will be traveling every weekend which is pretty cool since I love traveling and seeing new places. I also get to keep the frequent flyer miles which is rad! I will be working 40 hours each weekend so definitely putting in some hours! The people are the best and my travel partner Jack and I get along great. I am touring for dance competitions and do anything from videoing, set up and tear down, burning dvds, selling product, anything really. They said my personality is perfect for the backstage coordinator and I liked that position the most. I get to check in all the dancers, get them siked up, and flirt with some really HOT dance instructors haha I got to see so many amazing dance routines and hear a bunch of the dancers stories on how much they train and all the sacrifices that they make to be the best. It was really inspiring and got me fired up to NOT slack on my training and to take advantage of all my water time. This cute dance instructor wrote this on a napkin for me along with her number which I gave to Jack hahaha, "Sacrifice= If you want something you've never had...you must be willing to do something you've never done" True!!

Waves, Kreed Sunglasses and January 25th Video

The waves have been good lately. In the last 6 days I have surfed a total of 27 hours! Everyday kind of blurred together. My day's were the same wake up early eat breakfast with my parents, read, go to the beach, boogie all day, go to yoga and study all night!
I had two finals that I completed in this time to! MGT 307 and MGT 350. I passed both classes and learned a lot of new information. Classes have been very challenging and doubling up has required so much of my time! I just started FIN 370 today and it seems like a sweet class! Plus my teacher who I will never meet lived in Long Beach for 10 years and now lives on the beach and traveled his whole life! Pretty sweet!
I will be posting some more shots from the past few days along with some frame grabs of a bunch of my friends and I from Saturday when Robert Isambert came to down to film for his video Ring of Fire 2.

Nick Arant shot this of me on Friday. He has been getting some really cool angels. He is the type of person who picks up on anything he is into so fast. I can't wait for his website to be up! Its gonna be sick!! You guy's will be some of the first to hear about it on this very site :)

Back in the water, WAVES, and staying busy

The waves have been good and most of my time has been spent in the water. Im still doing my Yoga classes with my friend Shephanie and Chelsea and its been awesome! Things have been busy! I have been having a crazy amount of reading for school, long papers to write and of course studying!
I got the green light to get in the water on the 11th and went straight to the beach that day. The next day I got summoned to Jury duty and spent all day there. From then on I have been in the water pretty much every day and loving it! I also got to have a sick session with Mark Klein while he was here and go with RXYM team mate Drew Erichson to film down south for there video "This is the END"
I still don't have my Van. Every time I get it back the problem isn't fixed %100 its such a bummer! On top of that I left my camera in it!! Uggg

Today was pretty awesome. Josh Shelly and my coach Jacob Reeves came from up north to surf some waves with me. It was crazy windy stormy surf and the lifeguard was not stoked on us going out at all. In fact Jacob and I were the only guys out. We got a bunch of beatings which is always fun haha

How the wisdom teeth surgery went, Yoga, Spider Energy Drink, and New phone

I actually don't remember anything from my wisdom teeth surgery at all. When I woke up in the little bed area they walked me to my mom's car. I slept while my mom drove. When we got to our house I was super out of it from all the drugs and just remember walking to my room and collapsing while hitting my head on the wall and was out, just like that! haha My little mexican mom and couldn't move me for the life of her. She called the Doctors and while she was calling them my good friends Jacob, Micah and Matt just happened to stop by my house to say what's up. (A lot of my friends stop by my house daily to hang out, watch bodyboard videos, do HW, eat, etc...) They were busting up laughing and finally picked me up, got me in my bed and four hours later I finally woke up. The crazy thing was that I don't remember a thing. I didn't even knew my friends came by until my mom told me.
The road to recovery has felt like forever but its only been six days. I have been doing a lot of resting and a lot of HW. My diet is pretty much apple sauce, cream of wheat, mashed potatoes, protein drinks, soups etc... Easy foods. I have lost weight which is not good. I usually eat 5-8 meals a day, YES I eat a lot haha
To stay in shape I haven't been able to train really hard yet so I started to go on hour walks, signed up for a Yoga class which I spend atleast 3 hours a day at, and as of today doing light workouts. Im trying to take it easy, rest a lot and just keep these huge holes in my mouth CLEAN and not get infected!
I met with the Doctor yesterday and he said that I would be out of the water for at least another week. Since the waves will be good I have another meeting on tuesday to see if I can get in the water earlier but is very doubtful. The doctors son is a surfer so he knows how dirty the water is by where we live and it is pretty much a guaranteed staph infection ready to happen if I try and rush it. This time last year while I was in Hawaii my best friend Brian got staph from our local spot and it Sucked for him. So I am not in any rush to get sick and possibly ruin or not be able to go on my Hawaii trip which is for over a month.
I will be watching the loads bodyboard videos to stay siked, training as much as I can, and getting ahead in all my school work.

It's not my board but it will do for now haha Yoga class everyday!

I got a new phone before my surgery. The new droid from Motoralla. I think it does everything you can imagine and was awesome. I just didnt like certain things about it so today I returned it and got the other droid phone. It's lighter and I like it way more! The guy who helped us out was also a bodyboarder who went to my same High School as I did which was pretty cool. My sponsor Bodyglove makes a case for the phone I have to!

One of Ron's best friends Shawn Meredith got hurt that day in the shorebreak. I got him out of the water and onto the sand. Really sad that he will be out of the water. He fractured his ankle and his fibula (near his knee). He also tore his ligament that holds his ankle together. He has surgery on Tuesday the 5th and will be down for 3 months! Pray for a quick recovery for him

Christmas eve was pretty awesome! I finished my Michael Jordan Book, "Driven From Within." I got this book for Christmas last year from my best friend Kevin and planned on reading it in December to get that extra motivation and get ready for 2010!My parents and I got to eat some menudo and champurrado at my there best friends house and on top of that we ate at my aunt Nancy's in laws place for Tamales!!

Amy makes the best tamales! I have been eating them since I was 3 years old!

Christmas day was a time to relax for my parents and I. With my brother Jason in Australia with his family and my oldest brother Josh with his wife's family that left my parents and I together and it was sweet! We all slept in (which is rare) opened are presents, my mom made a killer breakfast then we all got ready to go to the Movies! We saw Avatar in 3d along with Invictus. Both of them were good!

My van is still getting worked on so instead of going up north or down south I stayed home and surfed locally. The waves were really fun! I love surfing at home because I see the older generation guys who I watched while I was growing up in the water and I also get to see the younger kids who are coming up and see how much they are progressing from each swell! On sunday I got to bodyboard for 7 hours! My friend Dustin beat me and was out for 9 hours!!! Crazy!!

Monday was a repeat of Sunday. The only thing was that it was smaller, and more crowded. I was out for 5 hours and my friend Dustin was out for 4.5! Barely beat him haha Milo also filmed for an hour since that is how long my battery last for on my video camera and will be making a quick fun edit. There was still swell up north and down south but my Dad had different plans for me since the waves were not that good close to home. He made sure I stayed busy from cleaning the rain gutters, pulling weeds, washing dishes, cleaning the house, etc.. He still is the BEST dad in the world!!

Yesterday I got to do my second workout session with Jason Yokobosky from JSY fitness!! He is keeping me in shape for my upcoming Hawaii trip in February. After our workout I went and surfed some headhigh plus closeout waves in LA just for a paddle. I kind of tweaked my ankle while I was duckdiving when the lip landed right on it. I am going to try and take it easy the next few days and get everything ready for 2010 and rest my ankle.

Early Christmas, Mechanic, KREED and waiting for waves

The waves have been small and bad around where I live with the occasional fun day. I started to get a little sick so I opted to catch up on my rest and not spend so much time in the water and training. I also have been able to hang out with so many of my friends, have fun and just enjoy some time being home! It has been EPIC but I can't wait for some waves to come!!!
My family celebrated Christmas a little early because my brother, his wife, and my niece will be in Australia for Christmas. It was fun to open presents early and have a huge meal, especially when you know that there are way more Christmas dinners coming! STOKED!

A few days ago my van Paula started to act up which I knew couldn't be good. I took her to Ed the mechanic and found out the headgasket was blown! It is a pricey operation and will cost me $1,500! Pretty bummed but she's worth it and we have way more road trips to go on and waves to search for so its a must to get her running well again.

Staying Busy

To sum up these last 13 days would be the longest blog ever! It has been really challenging adjusting to doubling up on my classes since I have been traveling up and down the coast a lot because the waves have been good, bodyboarding pretty much non stop, training, family time, meetings etc.. Like anything new that you take on it takes time to learn how you are going to pull it all off. My christmas break starts on the 22nd. I am really looking forward to that time so I can come up with a plan that will allow me to do everything that I need and want to do while keeping my grades up. These last 13 days have been filled with good times, lots of waves, lots of driving, and now lots of Homework!

I went to Santa Monica on thursday to meet with Jason Yokobosoky aka JSY FITNESS. I will be training with him one on one once a week until I leave to Hawaii. Since the waves are not as consistent where I live I have to keep my self prepared for when the waves do get good and this will be a great motivational tool to train with him. Milo came to document our first workout which was total madness but also the greatest thing ever! I also got to meet up with my team manager Matt "Chewy" from bodyglove and my friend Sean English to surf there local spot. I also got to surf my local break when I got home later that day.

I took a quick three day trip up North to get some waves. Friday was a great day. I got two sick sessions in along with getting to go rock climb with my friend Brett. The next day the waves still had size but the weather and wind were bad. I still had a fun session but knew that I had to get home and focus on my ACC 280 final. No riding shots from this trip, just memories :)

While I was up North the last event of the World Tour took place in the Canary Islands. My favorite bodyboarder of all time and friend JEFF HUBBARD won his second WORLD TITLE!! I am soo stoked it is back in the USA and even more stoked for him!

Today was gloomy and rainy. I just finished my ACC 280 final. It was one of those classes that you just want to be done with, so happy to be done with it!!! Tomorrow I start a new class and will begin doubling up on my classes so I can graduate sooner! I am looking forward to this challenge since it is going to require a lot more studying and way more school work but being able to graduate in 2010 and be DONE with school will be soo worth it!
I met with Dr.Albern who will be doing my wisdom teeth removal surgery. I changed the date from Friday to Monday so I can have more time to surf this swell. It should be big and picking the right place to go is going to be HUGE with this wind and weather.

I have been getting in the water every day even though the waves haven't been the best. When I get home from the beach I go straight into training. I have found it easier to start training right when I get home or otherwise it can be easier to talk myself out of it or ill get caught up with homework, my to do list or other things that come up.
I am reading a Michael Jordan book right now and a sweet quote I just read was, "If you try, then you can't fail. You failed if you don't try."

I love this machine. Zinka sunscreen works all day!

I just took my older brother Jason to the airport a few days ago. He is off to Israel! I can't wait to hear all the awesome stories he is going to have and photos!

Yesterday I had to go to the eye doctor along with the dentist. My bottom teeth have been have been getting a little cricket and when I brought it up to my dentist she took X-rays. The X-Rays showed that my two bottom wisdom teeth were coming in side ways and under my gums! Not good! Since I am finally home for a bit I am going to be getting them removed next friday. I have been hearing horror stories from everyone so im not to stoked.
There is swell right now up north and I just finished loading my van up and will be heading up there . I can't wait to ride some good waves!!!

Yesterday the waves were really fun. It wasn't big where I was but just perfect conditions. Glassy all day. I got two sessions in and saw so many of my friends. It is crazy when you are gone for so long how people change. There were some groms that I would always see on the weekends little skinny kids that just loved to bodyboard. I saw them yesterday and they werent so skinny or small anymore! They grew up and are all now wrestling and are 200+pounds! It is cool to see that they are still really stoked on bodyboarding and trying there best to stay out of trouble which is really hard for most kids. I stoped by AS to see how the shop was looking and saw my friend Jeff Watts working!!! This is BIG news and will be a separate blog but I am really excited! I worked up a big appetite and headed to the my church for their Thanksgiving feast. I haven't eaten that much in a long time and the dessert table was on a new level haha

The waves were small today and look small for the next few days. I got to go longboarding with Seal Beaches very own Rick. Rick has traveled a lot in his days and I love all the stories of his crazy adventures. I also love hearing about all the stories from back in the day about Seal. I dream about some of the stories that the old school guys have shared with me throughout the years.

While I was traveling I was talking with my friend Nick O and getting information on his training and what it takes to do triatholons since that is something he is really into. The more and more information I got the more excited I became thinking it might be something I could get into. Nick invited to go on an "easy" run with him on Thursday which was close to 10 miles. (He usually runs 20 miles) The run was uphill, donwhill, on the street, and in the mountains. I was kind of hesitant at first since I never run that much but the idea of pushing myself got me to amped to talk myself out of it! I don't remember the name of the place we went but it was close to his house and the scenerary was spectacular! We ran non stop for 1 hour and 10minutes. My legs at the end were tired and tight. I was stoked that I kept up with him and did it all without stopping! We then had a bunch of fruit and a big meal. Santa Ana winds were in effect and we headed to his local beach and surfed for a couple hours. My friend Matty Meyer also came out and got some sick waves. All in all it was a great day and when I got home I did my HW and went straight to bed.

Coming home was a breeze!!!

While I was sleeping that night I got a text from RXYM owner Ray Machodo to be at his house at 6am (friday) so we can get some footage for the RXYM video "This is the End" and to get a hold of Bobby Kitchart. I was exhausted from the run, the surfing and driving I did that day but still called Bob. I heard how pumped he was to get some clips at he got me pumped. The morning came fast and bobby and I left my house at 5am. We surfed down south and went to two different spots. We both got a few usable clips and got to watch the footage at rays house. We had a big lunch and I also got the new RXYM hoodies. Bobby slept on the way home and I enjoyed listening to so random radio stations.

I got back home on November 12th and since then every thing has been full on but amazing. My parents and I got to babysit my niece for the weekend. I have been able to catch up with so many of my friends. The waves have been very small like unridable on a longboard kind! So I have been training a lot, from swimming, biking, running, light weights, stretching, my own personal workout and racquetball! It has been fun because a lot of people want to do all these activities to so it is a great motivating tool. Like last night I went to swim some lapse. I updated my status on my twitter and facebook and invited whoever. I thought maybe one person would show up since its pretty cold but NO WAY! 11 people showed up to swim! It was sick! We took all the lanes since there was a tournament going on and a water aerobic class. We all had a blast and it was great to see people stoked on getting in shape. For me it is great because it will motivate me to keep going since it is so easy to talk yourself out of exercising when it is cold.
Every day has been jam packed and I didn't write 99% of what has been going on but I have been having the best time being home and am so happy!! The only thing to make it even better is there to be waves and for kylie to get her midterms done so I can hang out with her. Then things will be ALL TIME!!

Puerto Rico is FUN!

The amount of stuff that I get to do in a day here is crazy! I wake up at 5am and don't get to bed till 11pm earliest. From surfing our brains out, training, doing homework at night, being a tourist, eating like crazy and Babby knowing every person in Puerto Rico there is no time for rest. We always get invited over for food, hang out or anything. Every day is a new adventure and so much fun!
Monday we finally got some waves which I was stoked on. Babby took me to one of his favorite waves. We surfed it with just us and one of his friends out for a few hours. There were some ramps and barrels everywhere. No one was filming cause it was raining but the memory will be in my head forever. We then went to a shorebreak spot and I got to see my friend Joe Grodzen from cali.

Yesterday our friend PJ invited us to use the Jet Ski again to get a few clips. The waves were not the best for it but we all managed to get a couple fun ones! We went to get gas and some stuff happened to the trailer so we had to stay at the gas station for a few hours waiting for it to get fixed. It was great for me because I got to read and finish my Pete Maravich book! Maravich was a freak in basketball and had the best work ethic of his time! Once the trailer got fixed we booked it back to get a few more waves. I didn't get to go again but it was all good just watching my friends BOOST off every section. We came in at night and trying to get the ski on was such a mission but we did it.

Today was probably my favorite day of my trip! Babby and i got three sessions in, clocked in a lot of water time and got to surf by our self the whole time!!! The waves were double overhead and no one out. It was kind of bizarre to me but a lot of the waves were closing out so it was not that inviting. I got pretty worked and hit the reef by not landing a manuver and cut my leg, babby cut his foot pretty bad. We got invited to go to some outer reef on his friends boat after our second session. I never ever have surfed a wave like the outer reef one in my life but it was a great experience. It would be this big wall, then a barrel, and if you got lucky it would then have this horseshoe lip coming at you and you just hit it! I only got one of the horseshoe ones but was so pumped!

I am leaving tomorrow and know I am going to miss this place a lot! I love bodyboarding all day and then hoping on the plane super exhausted. Thats the goal for tommorow surf my brains out and sleep on the plane! I can't wait to see my AMAZING family, killer friends, and Kylie!

Puerto Rico update

The food, the people, the weather and the waves have all made Puerto Rico AMAZING! I haven’t really scored big waves yet but Babby has been making sure we get in the water twice a day every day since I have been here! (except for today because of HW) From reef breaks, beach breaks, and shorebreaks! Many of the good spots he takes me to are his spots so I don’t want to post any photos without his permission.
The other day our friend PJ took out his Jet Ski for a tow out session! It was their first time. We spent over 10 hours on it and had a blast! I am going to post some frame grabs next blog. The second half of the day I filmed for them, I even tried to get artsy and wounded up making some of the clips out of focus uh oh!
I got to go wakeboarding yesterday along with doing the loads tourist stuff almost every day! Like I said Babby has been making sure I stay busy busy busy!
My new class has been really demanding so I have been putting in way more hours than usual. I always like to start my classes strong while trying to get ahead at the same time. Instead of playing catch up during the class the comfort of being ahead is less stressful. A quote that is encouraging for me while balancing everything I have to do lately is, “Embrace challenges and choose to see them as gifts. Inside every hardship is a hidden jewel waiting to be found”-Unknown

My last night in Puerto we went out to get some flan to celebrate an epic trip. On our way back to the hotel we saw some waves. I convinced Raul to go out with me since he has never night surfed. The waves had a glow to them in the barrels and it was just awesome!

The next morning I woke up early and started cranking out my HW. I knew I was going to be traveling for 30+ hours before I got to Puerto Rico so it was really important to get as much done since it is my last week for this class. Once the maid came I packed my stuff in like 5 minutes, went to the beach and had my last session, took Raul to lunch as a thank you, got a postcard for Kylie, took a shower and loaded up the car. I got to the bus station and was straight off to Oaxaca airport!

Stickney and I cruised mainland Mexico for the last six weeks together. See ya in Cali stickney!!

I wore a cowboy hat this bus ride because my last bus ride 10 out of 10 guys had them I wanted to blend in more and even shaved this weird go tee thing on my face ha-ha
The bus stopped at this restaurant and I was starving. I have NEVER gotten a free meal at a restaurant in Mexico but I somehow managed to score one this trip! The bus driver told me the waitress thought I was cute but I just told him it was all the hat!
It took 12 hours and I arrived at 2am to the bus station.
I got a taxi to take me to the airport and picked the worst guy! He told me one price but once we started driving he raised it! He threatened to pull over and drop me off on the side of the road if I didn’t pay the extra. The funny thing was he wanted an extra 40 pesos, which is like $2.50 in the U.S so I fully paid the extra!
The road was blocked off and the gate wouldn’t open till 5am so that’s where he left me.
It was about 4 miles from the airport. I was super tired and was super confused on what just happened. I mean I was just on the side of a road It is really important to stay positive while you travel because a lot of things are going to happen and you just have to go with it and make the most of the situation. That is exactly what I did. I made this sick little fort. I used my towels as a mat, had my pillow and just slept for like 3 hours with all my stuff on top of me and this huge blanket over all of it. I woke up to these two guys just staring at me. They asked what I was doing and I told them “Waiting for the gate to open.” I gave them a few muffins and made small talk. The gate opened and I got a ride to my terminal! Saved 4 miles of walking with all my gear, Stoked!!!

After 14 hours of flights, layovers, airport cruising, and donating my hat to a little kid I finally got to Puerto Rico!!
I am staying with Babby Quinones and can’t be any happier. Babby is a complete legend. Right when I got to his house he showed me his new video he is making! It is super good! He also showed me his trophy’s (two of them are second place at PIPE) and a few photo albums of him bodyboarding all around the world! They were Epic and it inspired me to make some sort of scratch book when I get home.
I also got to get some local food that was delicious!
We went to the beach this morning and it was pretty small but a fun little reef. The waves look like they are going to get BIG in a few days so it should be sick!
I already know I am going to fall in love this place!

Mexico Video Teaser, More Traveling and Waves

The waves the next day after that big day cleaned up a lot! It was still solid and the tow teams were on it. Since they watched me the day before paddeling forever Brian Conoley's tow partner gave me a ride out to the lineup. That saved me alot of energy for my five hour session. The waves were sick and there was LOTS of paddling to be done. The only down side was that since there were 7 skis in the water every really good clean big wave that came in they were on it. It was sick to see but you get envious lol I managed to get a couple scrapper ones but had so much fun just being out in the big waves.that day still.
My friend Omar Leon got there a few days before we left. It was great to catch up with him. He just got married and his wife and him are just cruising all around Mexico. My third trip ever to Puerto I took with him and his brother. They are both super rad and every time I get to hang out or catch up with them its just awesome! I hope him and his wife have a sweet time cruising all around Mexico!
We left that area and took a nice 10 hour drive back to our friend Raul's place.

We stayed with Raul for a few day and got a few really fun sessions. Chad and I were trying to get a few different angles and scored on a few! That same day Mike the photographer headed back to california. Mike aka Chunk was great such a good edition to the trip and his skills behind the lens were epic!.

Loved this beach! The water was so clear and the waves were so fun! No boogie shots cause Chad is editing them :) He is a busy guy!

We then had a nice 13 hour car ride from Raul's place back to Puerto Escondido. We arrived late last night durig this crazy rain storm. The lightning was incredible and I am so stoked we made it here safely!
We got to get in the water twice today which is always fun. Chad lost his go pro with like an hour worth of footage. I hope we randomly find it on the beach but doubt it.
